There are unrests among people nowadays and they are hurting one another physically or mentally with or without any reasons. The society and the nation are experiencing negative effects of the deprivation of values.
On a complaint related to a Facebook status regarding religious humiliation, the fanatic groups massacred Hindu homes in the village of Thakurbari in Paglapir of Sadar upazila of Rangpur district. About 30 Hindu homes of the village have been damaged by the fire of extremists.
Hundreds of Hindu families are facing security threats there. This is a nude game of communal violence in the name of protecting religion. The attacks on the minority's houses and shops are not new. There are many complaints regarding forced land grabbing of the minority communities. The people of the minority communities of our country are victims of the violence and torture without any significant reasons.
On September 29, 2012 some lunatics attacked a Buddhist monastery at Ramu in Cox's Bazar. The ardent fanatical groups set fire to the Ramu's 12 ancient Buddhist monasteries and 32 homesteads. At that time, more than six Buddhist monasteries and hundreds of houses were vandalized and looted.
The similar incident took place in the other settlement and Buddhist monasteries of Ukhia-Teknaf on the following day. In October 28, 2016 the same allegations were made against the Hindu community of the Brahmanbaria's Nasirnagar upazila, and more than 100 families of the Hindu community of that area were being attacked. The miscreants vandalized their houses and temples.
Why such a series of attacks are happening against the minorities based on these false allegations? The State certainly cannot deny the liability of these actions. If anyone is guilty of putting status on the Facebook, he must be prosecuted in the court, but attacking certain community is an injustice?
Are minorities not the citizens of this State? It is the state responsibility to protect the minorities. People those who were genuinely guilty in the cases of Ramu, Ukhia and Nasrinagar, bring them under justice so that such incidents never repeat again.
Take the example of election. In our context, election means a dangerous time for the minority community. The people of the minority Hindu community are the major victims of widespread violence during the time of the election. Many times, they are tortured for simply voting.
The main spirit of our great liberation war was to build a non-communal and exploitation-free State. But even after so many years of independence, the dream is not well established.
As a result, incidents of communal violence in the country are increasing day by day. Many families are leaving the country quietly due to the lack of security. Statistics show that in the four decades of the independence, the population has doubled in the country, but in reality the number of religious minorities decreased.
Since the assassination of the Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, minorities started to leave this country. That trend is still going on. The rate of the minority population in Bangladesh was around 20-21 per cent during the independence. But now this rate is around 9.7 per cent, according to the available data.
Before the next national election, extremist militant groups are trying to be active to create a confidence crisis by destroying the communal harmony. Everyone will have to stand against this evil power at any cost. In order to ensure punishment of these evil works court should not consider the political identity of those criminals. Those who are involved in these misdeeds are the enemy of the State. The court must ensure exemplary punishment for them.
We must bear in mind that Bangladesh was born as a country for all not for Muslims or for Hindus. As a country of communal harmony, there is no alternative to stop minority oppressions. In order to do so the State should play a proactive role.
